YellowBridge QLD has expanded its activity program to meet a growing demand for engaging and interesting experiences for people with a disability.
YellowBridge provides disability support in Toowoomba for 80 people across their day and 24-hour care program.
“Like anyone else, our clients have skills, interests and a desire to experience new things,” said Jodie Collins, YellowBridge’s General Manager for Disability Support.
“They are curious, enthusiastic and keen to get involved in activities and have fun,” Ms Collins said.
“We want to provide activities and experiences that expand their skills, boost their confidence and increase their engagement with other people.”
Making pizzas, outdoor excursions, dancing and woodwork are just some of the regular activities that YellowBridge provides for its clients.
They can also choose to learn retail skills in the boutique op shop, Collectables, improve their health and fitness with a gym session, get creative with craft or join the tenpin bowling team.
The activity program is so popular that it has expanded to 25 weekly activities, which are organised and run by the organisation’s disability support staff.
“We run about 1400 disability support activities for our clients every year. It is a big program that requires a lot of team work from our staff but the benefits are enormous,” Ms Collins said.
“Our clients have fun, interesting and stimulating activities to get involved in. This means they are learning new things, making friends and feeling good about themselves,” she said.
